The 5 Bridal Blunders

Put the “to-do” on hold for a moment and check out this “blunder” list! Avoid these and stay calm & cool in the weeks leading up to your big day.

Blunder #1: Talking Endlessly About the Wedding

Your girlfriend simply asks “How are the wedding plans going?” and before she knows it, she’s on the slow end of a 20-minute list of all the current upsets in your planning. While the engagement period can be exciting, it can also be a scary time. But trust that things will work out fine. And the next time someone asks about your wedding plans, keep your answer to a sentence or two.

Blunder #2: Expecting Perfection

All the pictures, pinning and ideas can lead to a larger than life wedding (and bill!). Spending outside your budget so the sugar cubes match the flowers will have no merit after the big day. When you find yourself ignoring your budget, remember that the wedding is the launch to the rest of your life with your new husband. Perfection is in the eye of the beholder.

Blunder #3: Forgetting About Your Fiancé

“I can’t meet you for lunch, sweetie, I’m booked with all these wedding appointments.” Sound familiar? Neglectful behavior during your engagement can set a bad precedent for marriage. Take time off from big-day tasks to spend regular old girlfriend-boyfriend time together.

Blunder #4: Earning Diva Status

Me-Me-Me, Are you going overboard on the attention-grabbing front, with increasing demands from friends and bridesmaids-more bridal events and outings, more gifts, more reasons to spend money? While your intentions might be to keep your circle in-tact as you begin your transfer to “married” status, this behavior might backfire. Try to plan get-togethers that are all about fun and friendship and have nothing to do with your wedding.

Blunder #5: Blowing Your Wedding Budget

Many couples start out right in mapping out their budget, but as the extras-like $200 extra for the gown or a few hundred more for better champagne add up quickly! So make a budget, and stick to it-you don’t want to start your marriage under a cloud of debt.

Father Of The Bride Duties

Father Of The Bride Duties

Getting wrapped up in all the wedding planning may leave dad feeling left out.
Here are some tips for honoring your father in your celebration.

Walking you down the aisle

It was once symbolic of a father giving his daughter to another man, another family, and a life further removed from the home she grew up in. Most couples are marrying later in life and moving from parents’ to groom’s home isn’t as common as it once was, but the symbolism is still there.  Lets look at alternatives to the norm.

  • Having your mom AND dad do the honors
  • Your step dad or adopted father that raised you or has had a significant presence in your life
  • An uncle in your life who has always been there for you
  • Your brother, which is a great and personal alternative
  • KEEP THE EYE ON YOU by walking down the aisle yourself

Making a speech

During the reception it is customary for the father of the bride to make a short speech, thanking the guests and those that have helped with the wedding planning, and talking a little about his daughter and new son-in-law. At the end of the speech the father of the bride usually proposes a toast to the happy couple.

The father daughter dance

If you’re comfortable on the dance floor, the father daughter dance can be one of the happiest moments of your life. If you have two left feet you might be dreading it. Take a few dance lessons before the big day to learn some basic steps. Try to arrange a lesson for yourself, your wife, your daughter and her fiancée all together; it will provide welcome relief from pre wedding stress. Its even perfectly acceptable to throw in a few surprises like the  dance below!

Here are some greatTips for Hiring a DJ –

Ask for up-to-date references and phone numbers. Never sign a contract you did not ask for.

What does your DJ wear? It makes a big difference!

Who will be my DJ? If they have multiple DJs on their staff, confirm who will be handling your event and discuss your vision and ideas with them.

What kind of sound equipment do they use? Keep in mind there is alot of junk out there!

Are they a registered corporation with the state? If not, be very careful. They may be a cash and carry business.

Can you choose the music? Ask for a full song list of what they provide. If there are songs you wish to have that are not on the list, you can make requests and chances are they will have it.

Are there any hidden costs? Light show, mirror balls, microphones.

Are they insured for your protection? Protect yourself and your guests. Ask for a copy of their policy.

Do they have a technician on duty for equipment problems or emergencies? Do they have emergency equipment available? Is there a replacement DJ available? These are very important things you may want to consider before your big day.

Hire someone who you are comfortable and confident with because we want you to be the one happier in the end!!
